Ciao e buona domenica di italiano!
Come va lo studio dell’italiano? Spero bene.
How is the study of Italian going? I hope well. If you have any doubts, you can always ask me questions in the comments so that we can all talk together.
Speaking of 'all together', I invite you to join the Italian Reading Clubs for advanced levels. They are held on Fridays and Saturdays (they are two different groups, to differentiate the schedules).
In today's newsletter I would like to expand on the topic of a note on Substack from last week, namely the Italian saying 'seeking the hair in the egg'.
The saying 'seeking the hair in the egg' refers to an action that can be considered overly critical or demanding. Those who search for the hair in the egg are constantly looking for minimal or insignificant faults, often neglecting the more important or positive aspect of the situation.
Imagine that you are in the presence of a job well done, a project well realised or a generally positive situation: the nitpicker will ignore these aspects and focus exclusively on small details or negligible mistakes, manifesting an overly critical attitude.
The egg has no hair, so looking for it means focusing on negligible and, often, forced details.
Is there a similar saying in your country? Explain it to me in the comments, I would be happy to know it.
